22. International Trauma Life Support Providers (ITLS®) Advanced CoursePost-Graduate Programmes

The aim of the ITLS ® advanced provider course is to equip participants with knowledge and hands-on skills to care for trauma patients.  Participants will learn about latest assessment techniques and identification and performing of life-saving interventions.  The ITLS ® advanced provider course is aimed at ambulance emergency assistants (AEA), advanced life support (ALS) paramedics, nurses and medical doctors who wish to further their knowledge in the management of trauma patients in the pre-hospital setting.

Course applicants will receive a manual for pre-study purposes.  On successful completion of the course (written and practical assessment), participants will receive an ITLS ® certificate endorsed by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP).  The certificate is valid for three years.

24. International Trauma Life Support Providers (ITLS®) Paediatric CoursePost-Graduate ProgrammesThe aim of the ITLS ® paediatric provider course is to equip participants in the management of paediatric trauma patients.  The course focuses on paediatric assessment, stabilisation and packaging of the paediatric trauma patient. 

Course applicants will receive a manual for pre-study purposes.  On successful completion of the course (written and practical assessment), participants will receive an ITLS ® certificate endorsed by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP).  The certificate is valid for three years.

ITLS-P1 Day
25. Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)Post-Graduate Programmes

This course is similar to the ACLS ® course but is designed for medical professionals involved in paediatric emergencies.  These professionals include nurses, final year medical students, advanced life support (ALS) paramedics and medical practitioners (GPs and specialists). 

This scenario based course includes the management and stabilisation of paediatric patients suffering from respiratory and cardiac emergencies. 

Participants will practise skills and patient management in the form of scenarios on specially designed, state-of-the-art computerised equipment.

After successful completion of the course (written and practical assessment), participants will receive an American Heart Association (AHA) certificate which is valid for two years.

Course duration:         2 days

CEUs:                                 33 (including 2 CEUs for ethics)

Prerequisite:                 Current basic life support for healthcare providers certification

 

This course can be presented at a FECC campus or at a site mutually acceptable to parties. 

PALS2 Days
26. Paramedic CPG UpdatePost-Graduate ProgrammesThe HPCSA has updated the Clinical Practice guidelines for all practitioners.  
All Paramedics (ANT registered) are required to attend a CPG update, so that they can continue practising in accordance with the new guidelines.
The programme consists of the completion of a pre-course workbook, attendance at a one day classroom session, and being successful at a post course assessment.

27. PEARSPost-Graduate Programmes

In this Paediatric  Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilisation course, students learn how to use a systematic approach to quickly assess, recognize the cause, and stabilise a paediatric patient in an emergency situation.

During PEARS, students interact with real patient cases, and realistic simulations and animations to assess and stabilize paediatric patients experiencing respiratory and shock emergencies, and cardiopulmonary arrest. It prepares students to provide appropriate lifesaving interventions within the initial minutes of response until a child can be transferred to an advanced life support provider.

After successful completion of the course (written and practical assessment) participants will receive an American Heart Association (AHA) certificate which is valid for two years.

28. RCSA Local CPR Instructor coursePost-Graduate ProgrammesInstructor programme to become an RCSA (Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa) Local CPR Instructor.

This two day course empowers the learner to be able to run the RCSA CPR courses.
