Course Name: First Aid Level 1 - 3 Programme
Description:

The first aid programmes are aimed at members of the general public, organisations complying with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993) and future students interested in pursuing a career in the emergency medical services (EMS). 

Courses range from First Aid Level 1 to 3 and a combination course covering all three levels is also offered.    During the course, students will learn critical skills needed to attend to sick or injured persons until emergency medical services arrive to take over care.  Students will learn to how to manage bleeding, treat sprains and fractures, care for a person in shock as well as manage a patient who is choking or is in cardiac arrest.  Use of an AED (automated external defibrillator) is included in the course.   

Participants of this course will receive a certificate which is valid for three years and recognised by the Department of Labour and the HWSETA.  Participants who opt to enrol for and successfully complete the course assessment will receive an American Heart Association (AHA) certificate which is valid for two years. Succesfull completion would allow candidates to earn a total of 2500 Discovery Vitality Points.
